1.What is a “goshuin”?
A goshuin is a stampe for worshipers, mainly at shrines and temples in Japan.
Basically, you will receive it in the goshuin-cho (goshuin book) .
You can’t get it in a general notebook.
Originally, it was called “Nokyo goshuin,” and it was a proof stamp that was received as a proof that the sutra had been copied and offered to the temple.
In recent years, it has become possible to receive a goshuin by visiting a shrine or temple, regardless of whether you have copied the sutras.
In addition, it can be obtained at shrines, and is often used as proof of visitation.
Depending on the shrine or temple, seasonal, cute, goshuin may be prepared.
On the other hand, Goshuin is said to be the alter ego of gods and principal images.
Please follow the etiquette and don’t be rude when awarding.
2.Walking distance from Ikebukuro! Visit temples and shrines with a Goshuin-cho
I picked up temples and shrines within walking distance from Ikebukuro Station where you can get a nice goshuin.
2-1.kebukuro Great Buddha (Sengyoji)
It is a goshuin (simple red stamp) that seems to be the “Great Buddha” of Ikebukuro Daibutsu.
I feel powerful.
The Ikebukuro Daibutsu is located in Sengyoji, a concrete temple on Theater Green Street near Minami Ikebukuro Park.
It was only recently that I learned that the Great Buddha was in Ikebukuro.
2-2.Ikebukuro Mitake Shrine has a family of owls!
The Goshuin of Ikebukuro Mitake Shrine, the tutelary deity of Nishi-Ikebukuro, features an owl.
A stone statue similar to this one can be found at Mitake Shrine.
The owl is the guardian deity of Ikebukuro.
2-3.Monthly limited goshuin! Koyasu Inari Shrine
Koyasu Inari Shrine is located in the residential area of Kami-Ikebukuro and is dedicated to the god of safe childbirth and child rearing.
At Koyasu Inari Shrine, you can get a limited goshuin every month.
At Koyasu Inari Shrine, Kawazu cherry blossoms are in full bloom.
We recommend visiting during this season.
2-4.Otori Shrine in Zoshigaya! Happy with the limited goshuin
Speaking of temples and shrines in Zoshigaya, Kishimojin is popular.
However, Otori Shrine, which is located near Kishimojin, also has a cozy atmosphere.
At Otori Shrine, special goshuin are distributed during annual festivals and the Tori no Ichi.
It also comes with a Toden Arakawa line（Sakura Tram） shrine tour stamp.
3.Access from Ikebukuro by train or bus! Shrines and temples with unique Goshuin stamps
I will share temples and shrines where you can get a unique goshuin within 30 minutes from Ikebukuro station.
3-1.【Shiinamachi】A Must-See for Aspiring Manga Artists! Manga Jizo at Kongoin Temple
One stop from Ikebukuro Station on the Seibu Ikebukuro Line, Shiinamachi.
In front of the north exit, there is a manga Jizo at Kongo-in Temple.
“Tokiwa-so”, which is said to be the origin of manga, was nearby.
If you visit Shiinamachi, we recommend visiting places associated with manga artists and visiting the Tokiwa-so Manga Museum.
3-2.【Sugamo】 Adorable duck! Odai Kannon Sazaedo
Sugamo Odai Kannon holds a duck (meaning “kamo simlar to gamo” in Japanese) taken from the local “Sugamo”.
It is deformed and cute.
About 10 minutes by bus from Ikebukuro Station.
Sugamodai Ondo (Kamodai Sazaedo) is located at Taisho University in Sugamo.
There are 17 Sanskrit characters written on the walls of the stairs on the outbound route, and it is said that by climbing these stairs, you can obtain the same merit as reciting the Heart Sutra.
On the return trip, Senju Hiroshi’s “waterfall” is drawn, so it is recommended for Senju fans.
3-3.Lots of Bears 【Kumano Town】 Kumano Shrine
You can get a goshuin with a unique bear drawn for each season.
About 15 minutes by bus from Ikebukuro Station.
Kumano Shrine in Kumano-cho, Itabashi-ku is full of bears.
Yatagarasu will also be there, so let’s enjoy taking a comme
morative photo.
